GARAGE FLAKE FLOOR COATING PORTLAND

WHAT IS EPOXY FLAKE FLOORING?

Epoxy flake flooring is a multi-layer coating system built by broadcasting colored vinyl chips (“flakes”) into a wet epoxy base coat, then sealing everything under a clear protective topcoat. The result is a textured, speckled finish that’s more forgiving of everyday wear than a solid color and less involved than a full metallic or quartz build.

It’s the most requested coating system for Portland garages because it does three jobs at once: hides stains, oil spots, and minor concrete imperfections; adds slip resistance underfoot and under tires; and gives the floor visual depth without the premium cost of a metallic finish.

HOW EPOXY FLAKE COMPARES TO OUR OTHER SYSTEMS

All four of our coating systems start with the same mechanically-prepped concrete and finish with a protective topcoat. The difference is what goes in between.

HOW IT WORKS

DIAMONDGUARD™️
FLAKE FLOOR SYSTEM

Built in four layers, from the concrete up:

The top coat is the clear protective layer that seals the floor and helps guard against wear, stains, chemicals, UV exposure, and daily traffic. It also determines the final finish, such as gloss, satin, or a more slip-resistant texture.

The flake layer is made up of decorative vinyl flakes broadcast into the wet basecoat to create color, texture, and visual depth. It helps hide imperfections while giving the floor its finished decorative look.

The basecoat is the tinted coating applied directly over the prepared concrete surface. It bonds to the concrete and creates the foundation that holds the flake layer in place.

The surface profile is the texture created in the concrete during grinding or preparation before the coating is applied. It helps the basecoat bond properly to the concrete, creating a stronger and longer-lasting epoxy floor system.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Epoxy flake flooring is a multi-layer coating system: colored vinyl chips are broadcast into a wet epoxy base coat, then sealed under a clear protective topcoat. The result is a durable, textured, speckled finish.
Flake uses broadcast color chips for texture and a blended look. Metallic uses swirled pigments for a 3D marbled finish. Quartz uses colored quartz granules for a more rugged, stone-like texture. All three cost more than a solid color finish, but flake is typically the most budget-friendly of the three textured systems.

Most garage flake installs are completed in one day. Larger spaces, extra concrete repairs, or additional cure time for the topcoat can push a project to two days.

Pricing depends on square footage and concrete condition. Most 2-car garages (about 500 sf) run in the $3,250–$3,750 range. We confirm exact pricing with a free on-site quote.

The textured, multi-color finish is very effective at masking minor stains, discoloration, and small surface imperfections. Larger cracks or damage are repaired during surface prep before coating, not hidden underneath it.

Yes. The broadcast chip texture adds grip underfoot and under tires compared to a smooth solid-color finish, and we can add an anti-slip additive to the topcoat for extra traction.
No waxing or resealing needed. A regular sweep or occasional mop is enough to keep it looking new.
Yes. The system is built to handle moisture, road salt, and daily vehicle traffic without staining or breaking down.
In most cases, yes. We repair cracks, pits, and joints during the prep stage so the finished floor is smooth and stable before any coating goes down.
We back our flake installations with a warranty against peeling and delamination when installed by our team. Ask us for the specifics for your project during your free quote.
