Flake Floors

Durable, Clean, Great-Looking Custom Floors for Garages, Shops & More

A flake floor is one of the best ways to upgrade plain concrete into a surface that looks sharp, cleans up easily, and holds up to real daily use. Whether you want to improve your home garage, protect a workspace, or give a commercial area a more polished finish, Diamond Group installs flake floor systems built for long-term performance in the Portland metro area. Our team focuses on proper surface preparation, high-quality materials, and clean installation so your floor does more than look good on day one. It stays protected, easier to maintain, and ready for the wear that comes with vehicles, tools, foot traffic, and everyday life.

Why Homeowners and Businesses Choose Flake Floors

Flake floors are popular because they give you the right mix of appearance and practicality. The decorative flakes add texture and visual depth, which helps hide dust, minor dirt, and everyday wear better than plain concrete or a flat single-color coating. At the same time, the sealed surface helps protect your slab from stains, moisture exposure, and surface deterioration. For many Portland-area property owners, a flake floor is the sweet spot. It looks finished and professional, but it is also tough enough for garages, utility areas, light commercial spaces, and work environments where concrete takes a beating.

Benefits of Flake Floors:

A Better Alternative to Bare Concrete

Bare concrete is porous. It absorbs spills, shows stains, creates dust, and tends to look worn down fast. Over time, cracks, tire marks, and general use can make the whole space feel older and harder to keep clean.

A professionally installed flake floor changes that. Instead of fighting with dusty, dull, hard-to-maintain concrete, you get a sealed surface that looks intentional and is much easier to care for. Your garage or workspace can feel cleaner, more usable, and more valuable without a major renovation.

OUR INSTALLATION PROCESS

A flake floor is only as good as the prep work underneath it. That is why Diamond Group puts so much emphasis on process. We do not treat floor coatings like a quick paint job. We install them as a system, starting with the condition of the concrete itself. Diamond Group specifically highlights diamond grinding, moisture testing, and a meticulous prep process as part of its approach.

01

Evaluate The Concrete

We begin by inspecting the slab for cracks, surface damage, contamination, and problem areas that could affect adhesion or final appearance. We also look at how the space is used so we can recommend the right system for your needs.

02

Surface Preparation

We mechanically prepare the concrete to create the profile needed for a strong bond. Proper prep helps the coating adhere correctly and gives the floor the foundation it needs to perform over time.

03

Basecoat and Flake Broadcast

Once the surface is ready, we apply the coating system and broadcast decorative flakes to create the finished look and texture. This step gives the floor its character while also contributing to coverage and durability.

04

Protective Topcoat

The final topcoat helps lock in the system and adds protection against wear, stains, and daily use. The result is a floor that is easier to maintain and built to handle the demands of busy spaces.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Flake floors are one of the most popular garage floor solutions because they combine durability, easy maintenance, and a clean finished look. They are well suited for spaces that see vehicles, tools, storage, and regular foot traffic.

In most cases, regular sweeping and occasional mopping are all that is needed. Since the floor is sealed, it is much easier to clean than bare concrete.

Often yes. We can repair cracks, remove failing coatings, and recommend the best approach based on the slab.

Light foot traffic is fine after 24 hours. You can drive on the floor in 2-3 days. Full cure takes about 7 days, but normal vehicle use is fine after the initial 48-72 hour cure period.

We have multiple styles and colors and can mix and match to create a custom blend just according to your preference. The possibilities are almost endless.

Our flake floor systems are usually around 20-25 mils thick which is much thicker than DIY kits which are typically 3-5 mils.

No. Floor coatings are aesthetic, not structural. While we do cut and fill cracks before installation, they cannot prevent cracks from forming as your house settles.  Similar to how paint will not prevent cracks in your drywall from forming as the foundation settles.

No, our flake floor epoxy systems are high quality and designed to resist “hot tire pickup,” a frequent problem in DIY systems where tires will pull up the low-quality coatings.

For residential applications, they will last 15-20+ years. For industrial and commercial applications with heavier traffic, equipment, etc. you can expect it to last anywhere from 7-15 years.

Regular sweeping and occasional mopping with mild soap and water will be just fine. Avoid abrasive cleaners with harsh chemicals and tools that could scratch the surface. While the flake floors are stain resistant, we recommend prompt clean up to minimize the risk of stains.
